Reflection.
The
specific scene that got me was when he was attacked. It got me angry because I didn’t
think he did anything to them. He was just a guy trying to make everything
straight and look the way they should.
But what
was odd and surprised me was he has a generalized fear towards African
Americans even though he knew his attackers weren’t all African Americans. I
felt pity for him, but I felt like his generalized fear on African Americans wasn’t
necessary.
What I am
still curious about is what his view would have been if an African American had
helped him while he was been attacked because I still don’t see the reason why
he would stereotype all African Americans.

ReplyDeleteAgreed. We are supposed to be outraged at his overgeneralization, which he himself says he finds wrong and troubling. Perhaps it's partly what compelled him to contact his attacker, to better understand (because his overgeneralization wasn't working). Can you see how this happens in the narrative?
ReplyDeleteYes I can see it and I kind of understand his point of view
